To Chris, from Brian —

I think it was 5 years ago when I asked you to be my best man. We were in Vegas... rolling... and I just sprung the question on you. I’m incredibly glad you followed up on your commitment and put so much energy into sharing this big milestone with us. From your enthusiasm when we got engaged, to muling our extracurriculars to the desert as well as creating our slideshow — you did it all — and I can’t thank you enough. To think this friendship literally spawned because we coincidently sat next to each other in Spanish class is nothing short of amazing. Thank you for being there every step of the way and through all my big milestones. Here’s to many more to come!

To Chris, from Julia —

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — if it weren’t for you and Phil hanging out with me at those earlier parties, when Brian would bring me and then just disappear into the crowd, who knows how we would’ve ended up! You’ve been such a constant in our relationship, and grad school was only bearable because I knew you were going through the same. We would both stay up late, chatting online as we procrastinated on yet another project. But at least we finished our programs! And now look at us. Truly living the life we used to joke-daydream about, with our partners and our jobs and dogs and houses!! We can talk about anything, and I know with you I’ll always have the best conversation partner, a dear friend who is an honest sounding board, has a strong sense of integrity, but who I can still be petty with and shit-talk together.

To Lien, from Brian —

You’re too popular! Double booked for weddings, but I am super glad you made it to ours and opted to close out your night (AKA get drunk) with us! You are a person that makes things happen. Julia and I always talk about how you’re able to enable spontaneous fun (like oyster shucking by planning at 11pm the night before). There are very few people that can get people to rally around them, so thank you for always putting yourself out there and getting people together.

To Lien, from Julia —

I’m so happy that Chris has brought you into our lives! And although 2020 really shit on a lot of plans this year, I will forever look back at this year as being the time when we started to grow our own friendship. It would’ve been easy (but less meaningful) for us to approach this friendship as just the significant others of two best friends, so I’m glad we’re not just turning to that default. You’ve always been open and welcoming, but I know that I can take a while to warm up and be truly open to someone. It’s why going to Disneyland together, and having all that downtime to get to know one another felt like such a gift (not to mention it would only be a couple of months before the country shut down for COVID... Even more of a gift!) We’ve kept up the hangs somehow during quarantine, and it’ll only get better once we have big-ass yards to hang out together in. Can’t wait!

Thank you both for being part of our special day as well as your generous gift. It wouldn’t have been the same without you. You two have played a big part in our relationship thus far, and we’re so glad that we’ll be putting down roots near each other in the East Bay! More hangs to come, forever and ever.

Love,
Julia & Brian
